When we think of the birds found in Zimbabwe, great long beaks, bold colors in countless sizes and shapes come to mind. This is such a spirited and sweet sculpture. Skillfully carved by a Shona artist from Zimbabwe (which means “house of stone”),this graceful & elegant sculpture emerged from fruit serpentine stone. The artists work together with their stone and it is believed that ‘nothing which exists naturally is inanimate’- it has a spirit and life of its own. These artists facilitate the fine art that results from their intuitive creativity — that is what the stone is expressing to them.
