Antique Wood & Perot Iron & Teak Bench - CIRCA1800's
Product Description
Garden Accents is delighted to offer this remarkable bench for sale. It came to us from its previous owner who purchased it from Strawbridge & Clothier in 1989 when the Center City department store liquidated everything and closed. Strawbridge collected antiques and often used them in their displays as props.
This antique iron & teak bench was originally manufactured by Wood & Perot, an ornamental iron works manufacturer located at 1136 Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia. Wood & Perot produced ornamental iron both before and after the passing of Elliston Perot in 1865. After Mr. Perot's passing, the company then became Robert Wood & Company and continued to produce fantastic pieces until 1881. This bench is a remnant of that historic period of time. The company was in business from 1849 to 1881.
Today, in sections of Victorian Philadelphia many of the railings and balconies that you see both in front and in many instances on the back of homes were made by Wood & Perot. Similar styles are found in Old New Orleans where this prolific company also opened a branch showroom named Wood, Miltenberger & Company.
Robert Wood was progressive for his time and had his own pattern making department and was known to produce pieces with tasteful elegance.
